Audio

in this topic we will be learning and demonstrating a variety of audio techniques, both with and without visuals paired with the audio. I am to show my skills and abilities to use an assortment of techniques and devices.

Childrens audiobook

Pre production

In this project we were tasked with making an audiobook reading out of an existing book. My group chose snail and the whale to read. We had to analyze 2 other kids audiobooks as well as our own. These "were go the fuck to sleep" and "the highway rat".

We recorded our lines in the quietest room in the building, and this went smoothly with minimal errors. Once we had recorded all the dialogue, we went round the campus doing foley and recording audio files. And we managed to get 3 of the college admin staff including the principal, and vice principal, to provide imitations of creatures that are featured within the book. We then edited the audio together, and I used some sound effects from BBC sound effects (in the public domain), there are 10-13 self recorded sound effects used and around 20 total sounds.

Practical research

Audio techniques

For this task we researched and wrote about different sound recording techniques, like what they are and why they are used. I also edited all the pictures seen on the document myself and can be seen to the left.

Practical Research

mic test timeline

In this task we had to record a short line on an assortment of microphones at our disposal, we shot at a distance of 2 foot and 6 foot to see the difference in audio quality based of microphone and distance, and to see which microphone works better for each location. We then had to edit the clips into a short video that showed all the clips. During this task i also learnt how to key out the background of a green screen using ultra key. The image that can be seen on the left is a demonstration of the premiere timeline.

The video helps provide insight for which microphone is best for which scenario you may come across when filming.

3 minute short film

This is the ore production and the scripts we wrote for the short film. We each wrote a script but ultimately chose tag as that held up the best.

Tag and feedback

In this task we had to write, film, and edit a 3 minute short film. The short films had to have a conversation between 2 characters and focused on the audio more than the visuals.
